Interests
- Enjoy the journey: I enjoy life and thus striving for work-life balance. It's a continuous effort
and often times
requires you to give up working on seemingly appealing stuff. In my opinion, people should
working to live,
instead of living to
work.
- Witness the world: I seek "alien", unique, authentic, and memorable experiences. I enjoy all kinds
of outdoor
activities like
travelling around (especially solo trips), hiking, and
mountain
climbing (less technical ones).
When I travel, I often seek
out natural scenery, historical places of interests, cultural experience, lifestyle, and
local
food. This is an ordered list.
- Passion for music, film, and literature. A brief picture of my personal preferences:
- Music: I love classical music (symphonies from Bruckner and Sibelius),
rock
(progressive bands such as Genesis, Pink Floyd and maybe some
experimental/instrumental/fusion
ones), electronic (melodic ones: trance, melodic x, synth x), intl' pop, etc. In
short, I am
so
not discriminatory in genres when it comes to music (though I am also a picky listener). I
play
electric guitar and bass (one emotional, the other strong, can't get bored with them) and
hope to play drums one day --- though my most dreamed instrument is
the synthesizer.
- Film: I am a huge fan of motion pictures (this is also something to do with my nature of
seeking experiences). Some directors I especially like are: Ridley
Scott, Christopher Nolan and many others. Apart from the aesthetics,
emotions, and storytelling, I
always appreciate complexity and diverse
interpretations in films. Mr.
Scorsese is
dead
correct --- superhero movies are never cinema.
-
Literature: I always enjoy reading books by V. S. Neipaul. He blurs the lines
between fiction and non-fiction. I like the observant and
perceptive style in
his works, especially considering post-colonialism. I read many classical literature through
the years, two of myfavorite books: Night
Flight and
Nostromo: A Tale of the Seaboard. Starting in 2023, I've also started reading some
self-empowerment books for internal growth.
- Former collector: I used to collect many cool stuff—miniature models, hi-fi equipments, fountain
pens,
poker
cards,
and
watches. However, I have given up collecting to embrace a minimalist and pragmatistic way
of
living.
- Some other hobbies that are top on my to-do list: dancing, painting (especially oil), restoration.

Be of service
to others. "You can be of service to others in the smallest way through your thoughts, words and
actions. You needn’t lend your time to charities to be of service, although it’s helpful."
